Tim Blomfield

As a natural extension of being an historically-informed performing cellist, Tim is Australia’s pre-eminent bass violinist, performing regularly on the basse de violon in concerts and recordings since 1997. His fascination with baroque cello and historically-informed performance and repertoire from the baroque and classical eras began in 1984, as a recent graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Tim explored this area of interest further with Jaap ter Linden at the Royal Conservatorium, The Hague. Tim also enjoys producing modern urtext editions of unedited 17th and 18th century scores. He is on the music staff of Kincoppal-Rose Bay School where he teaches cello, HSC composition and musicology.
